In law school, there comes a time when you need to decide what kind of law you are going to specialize in and then practice when you get into the "real world." There are more choices than most people would imagine. There are subspecialties of law that anyone outside of the field would never even have heard of, they are that specific and relatively obscure. When I reached the point where I needed to make my decision about a law specialty to concentrate on, I looked at several different factors to make that choice. The first thing I knew was that I wanted to spend at least some time in the courtroom. For that reason, I did not go into estate planning or contract law or anything that would of been largely paperwork based.
I also knew that I wanted to feel the thrill of the adversarial process in a way that only a court case can provide. So, I knew that I would not get into corporate law. My choices came down to civil litigation and family law, after I've whittled away all of the extraneous options. In the end, I chose to become a civil litigation attorney.
